Propitiously located at the point where the Ganges emerges from the Himalaya, Haridwar (also called Hardwar) is Uttarakhand’s holiest Hindu city. Haridwar, literally Gateway to God, has several excellent ashrams. Each ashram has its own mythological significance.
Some Ashrams situated here are:
Ma Anandamayee Ashram
This ashram is located at Kankhal. The samadhi (grave) of Shree Shree Ma Anandamayee is located here. Devotees included late Mrs. Indira Gandhi (ex Prime Minister of India). Attend the evening aarti near Ma's samadhi and have a soul cleansing experience.
Sapt Rishi Ashram
Among one of the most ancient ashram in Haridwar, located on the Haridwar-Rishikesh Road. The word 'Sapt', meaning seven, refers to a legend. According to the Hindu tradition, the ashram is the place where seven sages (known as Saptarshis) have once meditated. These seven sages (or rishis) include Kashyapa, Vashisht, Atri, Vishwamitra, Jamadagi, Bharadwaja and Gautam.
Jairam Ashram
Jairam Ashram is said to have good accommodation. A lot of tourist's come here, to view the statue on display here. The statues are dedicated to Hindu Gods, Goddesses and demons. Famous for its diorama exhibition. It houses a massive white statue
Prem Nagar Ashram
Prem Nagar Ashram was established in 1944 by Yogiraj Satgurudev Shri Hans Ji Maharaj, the ashram his followers. It has now become a sanctuary for spirituality. People come here to meditate and to find peace.
Santoshpuri Ashram
Situated on the banks of the Ganga in an extremely peaceful environment just ahead of the Bharat Mata Temple. The babaji who create this ashram has now gotten Samadhi but his German spouse and offspring handle the the ashram, they have yoga and spirituality classes.
Soham Ashram
Soham Swami was a big spiritual leader and yogi of India. His actually name Shyamakanta Bandopaddhyaya. He was Advaita Vedantic follower of Tibbetibaba. Tibbetibaba was a big yogi and maharishi of India.
Saptrishi Ashram
Saptrishi Ashram is a beautiful place near Haridwar, where 7 great sages or Saptarishis, namely Kashyapa, Vashisht, Atri, Vishwamitra, Jamadagni, Bharadwaja and Gautam said to have meditated. The Sarovar flows in the front of Sapt Rishi Ashrams, which is positioned next to the Haridwar Rishikesh road.
