City Palace comes an impressive sample of architecture in the royal city of Jaipur, Rajasthan. Adjacent to the renowned Hawa Mahal, this palace renders another major landmark of the Jaipur city. City Palace, built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh in the 18th century, appears out a mixture of Rajasthani and Mughal Architecture. This as an expansive area is divided into a series of gardens, courtyards and buildings.
At first, the outer compound was constructed by Raja Sawai Jai Singh. The additional impressive buildings became constructed later by the succeeding rulers. This holds in different buildings such as Chandra Mahal, Mubarak Mahal, Mukut Mahal, Maharani's Palace, Shri Govind Devji Temple and the City Palace Museum.
The Mubarak Mahal addresses visitors as they enter the premises. Built by Sawai Madho Singh to entertain his guests, it comes converted into a costume gallery nowadays. The Mubarak Mahal displays imperial apparel of the past. City Palace has the world's largest silver vessel, an art gallery that showcases painted ceilings and the rare ancient handwritten original manuscripts of Hindu scriptures.
Chandra Mahal emerges out the highpoint of the tour to City Palace. This has seven stories, each story deputed by a different name. The topmost storey is known as Mukut Mahal. The Palace gets adorned well with delicate paintings, mirror work on the walls and floral decorations, designing it imperative to the itinerary.
Diwan-E-Khas and Diwan-E-Aam are the other wonderful attractions of the palace. Also do a visit to the Maharani Palace museum, where weapons belonging to the kings are on display. It was once the royal apartment of the queens.
Shukh Niwas was the resting place of the erstwhile kings. This became the place for them to eat, rest and enjoy. Decorated with the Mughal paintings, this apartment has a dining table fashioned out of glass and silver in European style. After all Shobha Niwas in the palace is a royal apartment decorated with the mirrors.
