Dargah Hazrat Nizamuddin

Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah is a holy shrine dedicated to the famous Sufi saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. The Dargah is located in the Nizamuddin West area of Delhi. This Sufi Saint led the Chisti order of Sufism in India. In 1325, an affluent merchant built the structure. Then it was renewed by Firoz Shah Tughluq.


Hazrat Nizmuddin had an ample pursuing which added names like Alauddin Khilji, Amir Khusrau, Shah Jahan's daughter Jahanara and Mohammed bin Tughluq. Amir Khusrau, a famous poet, was a loved follower of the saint.


The renowned Mughal emperors such as Humayun, Shah Jahan, Akbar, Babur and Jahangir used to visit this shrine to pay respect to the saint. During their imperial procedures, the emperors halted at the tomb to pay their respect to the saint.


The tomb exists of an adorned square chamber enclosed by lawns. The beautiful domes of this tomb are marked by black marble stripes while a lotus inhabits the centre of the dome.


The mausoleum has a prayer hall that is called as the Jamaat-e- Khaana. The saint was eminent for his spirit of endurance. Thereby, this draws many pilgrims everyday. Qawwali music and incense sticks bring to the Dargah a soothing experience to its pilgrims.
