It is the oldest museum of Rajasthan that came into existence in 1886 AD to celebrate the occasions of the visit of the King Edward VII to the pink city.
The museum exhibits a wide variety of metal objects, carpets, wood crafts, stone and metal sculptures, natural stones, ivory goods, arms and weapons. A large collection of miniatures from the Kota, Bundi, Kishangarh, Udaipur, and Jaipur schools of paintings is also on display.
The City Palace Museum is a treasured storehouse of artifacts and the significance of the collection can be understood from the fact that most of the acquisitions were dated as and when these items came into royal possession. Other interests of the museum include the textile section of the Museum, medieval Arms & Armory and Mughal & Persian carpets.
Chariots, Cars, buggies, Horse, Elephant and Camel Carts used by the royal families are also on display. All these had state as well as ceremonial functions and later on also brought out on religious occasions only.
