The true example of Mughal style of architecture, Mariam Tomb lies 13 km away from Agra. It is located on the left-side of Agra-Mathura road and lies to the west of Akbar's tomb.
Situated 13 km from Agra, this is the mausoleum of Mariam Zamani, who was a Rajput Princess of Amber (Jaipur). She was the wife of great Emperor Akbar and the moth of Jahangir (Salim).
The tomb is well-known for its architectural beauty that lies in its marble construction as well as embedded design. It features the same look from front or back.
This beautiful specimen of Mughal structure was once a pleasure pavilion, built under Sikander Lodi in 1495 AD. Later it was converted into a tomb in 1623 AD.
It is strong sandstone structure with beautiful carvings on most of its exterior walls. The cenotaph of Mariam lies on the ground floor.
The huge chattris placed at each corner as well as the four rectangular kiosks conquering the centre of each facade.
The red sandstone façade is categorized into innumerable panels and decorated with several geometric pattern structures.The tower is covered by a pavilion, which is supported by slender pillars. The upper story encompasses the marble cenotaph, which is open to sky.
