Octagonal Tower is better known as a romantic ornamental pavilion. This is the venue where two most powerful empress spent their life. It is also referred as 'Musamman Burj'. It is said that Emperor Shahjahan spent his last time at the same place and died gazing at the Taj Mahal.
This beautiful palace positions itself on the left of the 'Khaas Mahal'. The octagonal tower along with an open pavilion boasts of its elegant design and majestic construction. While visiting this beautifully carved tower, one can have the beautiful views of the Taj Mahal.
Built by Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaj Mahal, this tower has a beautiful Octagonal shape. It was strategically designed so as the flow of the cooling breze from the Yamuna river should reach to the tower. Enveloped by arched galleries, the tower is a five-storied building. There are around twenty-four columns that lie on the fourth story of this building. These columns not only adorn it but also form the fifth story.
The main feature of this tower is, its delicate marble lattices. Coupled with ornamental niches, these marble lattices enable ladies of the court to view the wide expanse of the famous river Yamuna. In the interior, an exclusively carved and inlaid mihrab has been given on the western wall, offering it a wonderful look. The tower was joined to the main hall through screen of marble latticework. The arcade was preserved by a chhajja and above the parapet, there are seven wonderful square chattris.
